The Jamboree is a basketball development program operated by BVC that focuses attention on the U12 athlete, young coaches and up and coming young referees.
Following the recent U12 Skills Days, a total of 240 young male and female athletes have been selected to attend the 2016 Jamboree which will be held in Echuca in September.
“This is a significant increase from previous years and another example of BVC’s investment in developing young basketballers,” said Craig Hockley, BVC’s Participation Coordinator.
BVC’s Referee Development Officer, Karin Berrysmith expressed that the Echuca event was an important pathway for developing the next elite level referees.
“Victorian Basketball is recognised for our pathways and our commitment to developing referees.” Karin said. “We have a significant plan to continue to develop grass roots basketball and that includes the recruitment, retention and development of referees as well as providing opportunities to enter the elite referee pathways.”
David Huxtable, Manager Basketball Victoria Country is looking forward to the annual event,
“Congratulations to the 240 athletes selected. The Jamboree represents the first step in the BVC pathway. It is an event that provides a sensational basketball experience for athletes, officials, coaches and team staff.”
“The U12 Skills Days once again broke attendance records across the eight regional centres,” David continued. “All athletes should be commended for their commitment to development.”
