FOLLOWING the CBL Annual Meeting, changes to the 2019/20 competition structure will be undertaken accordingly by Basketball Victoria Country.
Held last Sunday via teleconference, CBL delegates from Gippsland unanimously voted in a motion to conclude the CBL season prior to Christmas. This will shift the CBL Gippsland Conference season from October to December for the upcoming 2019 season, with grand finals to be held on Saturday 21 December 2019.
CBL Competition Manager Sammy Cartwright said the changed dates of the CBL Gippsland Conference season would be a significant modification to the senior basketball calendar in Country Victoria
“The motion voted on at the CBL Annual Meeting will alter the length of the CBL season in the Gippsland region, as delegates wished to modify the season to combat concerns due to scheduling in January.
“Our desire is to host the best possible senior competition throughout Country Victoria and if our regions identify potential solutions to any barriers they will be explored. Ultimately, the Gippsland associations have voted in favour of the change and BVC will implement it for the 2019 season and then review at the conclusion of the season.
“Basketball Victoria Country will always act in the best interests of our associations and members to ensure our competitions, tournaments and programs meet their needs and deliver the best possible environment for success throughout the state.”
There will be no change to fixtures for the CBL’s North East, North West and South West conferences in 2019/20, with those three conferences set to conclude their seasons on Saturday 8 February 2020.
Team applications for CBL 2019/20 season have now opened, with applications closing on 4 August this year.
