SHEPPARTON Gators have their hands on the North East men’s top spot after a thrilling four-point win at Seymour.
Round 5 of the Country Basketball League season was played over the weekend and it was led by the Gators’ blistering triumph over the Blasters, following on from Shepparton Lady Gators successful 74 to 48 win over the Lady Blasters.
Wodonga won both men and womens matches on their home court against Wangaratta with the women winning by 10 and the men by just 5 points.
On Sunday, Shepparton were in Myrtleford where the Lady Gators were defeated by 5 points while the men continued the undefeated way with a 75 to 59 win over the Myrtleford Saints.
Wallan comfortably defeated Echuca with the men winning by 30 and womens winning 41.
In Gippsland, Maffra won all 3 of their matches with their women defeating Sale by 4 points and the men picking up 2 wins defeating Sale by 20 points and then Churchill by 1 point on Sunday.
Churchill held off Traralgon men for a 13-point win.
Ararat won 1 and lost 2 at home this round with a valiant 23-point loss to Mt Gambier men and a 24 point loss to Portland women offset by a 5 point win over the Portland men.
Colac and Terang split their meetings with the Terang women defeating the Kookas by 23 points and Colac returning the favour with a 17-point win.
In the North West women, Swan Hill Lady Flyers picked up a 7-point win over Bendigo and Maryborough comfortably handled Castlemaine, 79 to 44.
In the North West mens competition, Mildura accounted for Kyneton, Bendigo defeated Swan Hill by 25-points and Maryborough defeated Castlemaine by 7-points.
