Vale – Gerry O’Rourke

BASKETBALL Victoria Country passes on our condolences to family and friends of Seymour Basketball Association mainstay Gerry O’Rourke, who passed away on Monday afternoon.

Gerry was involved in country basketball for more than 50 years, being a Seymour foundation member in 1972 and an eventual life member.

Gerry and a small band of volunteers helped secure funding for the Seymour Stadium facility in 1986 and Gerry led the Project Working Group to secure $400,000 funding for its construction.

Gerry was heavily involved in basketball officiating across the state. As a referee he officiated at five national championships before becoming a mentor to younger referees. He was awarded the Jack Terrill Medal in 1986 for his dedication to officiating, the advancement of country basketball officials and his lifelong passion for helping Seymour basketball thrive.

Gerry is survived by his wife Dawn.

Vale.
