Victorians picked for Australian Under-16 Camp

VICTORIANS are set to make an impact at the Basketball Australia Under-16 National Camp invites with 15 players selected to attend.

The list of 44 athletes to participate in the camp held at Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence from 3-5 May have been named with 22 boys and 22 girls converging on the Basketball Australia High Performance Centre at the AIS, in Canberra.

Victoria has 11 female and four male representatives selected for the camp, with a number of these players starring at the recently held Australian Under-18 Junior Championships in Townsville, QLD.

Victoria Metropolitan representatives Alannah Chatfield (Knox), Joshua Duach (Kilsyth), Harry Johnson (Knox), Charlise Dunn (Knox), Luisa Fakalata (Nunawading)  and Marcus Windhager (Dandenong) won gold in Townsville and their elite form has been recognised with selection to this camp.

Victoria Country pair Dyson Daniels (Bendigo) and Paige Price (Southern Peninsula/BA COE) also starring in Townsville.

Set to represent Victoria Metropolitan and Victoria Country at the upcoming Australian Under-16 Junior Championships, Tess Heal (Keilor), Georgia Koopmans (Warragul), Dallas Loughridge (Warragul) and Nyadiew Puoch (Dandenong) have also impressed enough to earn a ticket to Canberra for the elite camp.

This camp is the start of the preparation for the 2019 FIBA ASIA U16 Championships to be held later in the year.

Six states and territories are represented by the athletes, while all 24 players that last year won gold at the FIBA Under-15 Oceania Championships will be in attendance.
