Vale – Jack Walker

Basketball Victoria would like to pass on its deepest condolences to the friends and family of life member Jack Walker, who sadly passed away earlier this month.

A perennial presence in Country basketball, Walker was on the Kyneton Basketball Association Committee for 29 years, holding every executive committee position including president on several occasions. Jack also played a major role in the redevelopment of the Kyneton Leisure Centre and was ultimately awarded Kyneton Life Membership.

Jack served as a Basketball Victoria Country Council (BVCC) Member and Regional Supervisor for over 10 years and is remembered for his major strength of having a thoughtful, diplomatic approach to problems in the various associations in his region.

He was a popular State Team Manager for Victoria Country U18 and U20 Men’s teams, then as Chair of the Promotions and Publicity Committee, he helped to fundraise and ensure the cost of basketball participation would be as low as possible.

Jack spent many years as the Volunteer Manager at Country Events, particularly at Albert Park, and organised all volunteers efficiently. He was well-known for driving across the state countless times to ensure all of his Victoria Country State Teams had the right apparel and were kitted out with the right gear.

Jack worked tirelessly to improve the lives of all around him and was a favourite amongst the athletes and team staff.

Jack was recognised on many occasions and received the prestigious Jack Terrill Medal in 1979 and was also inducted as a Basketball Victoria Life Member in 2019.

We extend our condolences to Jack’s wife Joan, his children Ginny, Matt, Andy, Jane, Cait and their partners as well as all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Vale.
